I am having a small white rectangle pop up in the upper right hand corner of my screen when I'm on the internet.

I tried to capture what is on my screen. This area will not go away and has no way to close and will stay on screen no matter what I'm doing. It's always on top layer.

I've searched this site using some of the words in the area, but have not found any postings. I've searched the Microsoft site also, to no avail.

Appreciate any help or guidance, I'm ready to kick this pc to the curb!!!

    The complete error would be;

Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.

This could be due to a missing registry entry, CTreeView Control - {CD6C7868-5864-11D0-ABF0-0020AF6B0B7A}.

    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dmocx.htm

This could also be caused by an entry in the host file or a program blocking the site. Have you tried clearing your cache?

  3. to hide this advert.

cherokee--Is this happening on all pages and only in the right top corner?
Try a right click|Properties on the box to see what is in the Address line. That might tell you the source.

I get the Action Cancelled message all the time usually where an advertisement would be, not just the top right corner. As Whiskeyman has said that could be caused by the having the URL of the advertising company in your HOSTS file.

welshjim - It happens on different pages at different times. Seems like we're on line for awhile and then it happens, and other times it happens as soon as we open IE.

Have tried right click, left click and nothing happens. The only way to get rid of it, is to shut down and start over.

The cache is cleaned with Trend Micro when we shut down.

Going to look into whiskymans ideas and will post back afterwards.

    Thanks.

This registered dmocx.dll with Windows - i.e. Windows is now aware of the presence of this .dll file and - yes- it succeeded. Has this resolved your problem?

FYI - for Windows to work correctly many dll (library) files need to be registered so that Windows is aware of their presence and can call on them when required. When registration is necessary this is done automatically when Windows or another program is installed. Sometimes things go awry and the registration data is lost - this can happen at any time.
