    Hi,

I have recently installed quite an old version of Windows XP home edition onto a new PC. The product code and activation steps were completed OK but I am unable to update the PC with the most recent updates such as SP1 and SP2 etc. The message that I get when I try is as follows.

"Validation Incomplete: Unable to perform validation. "

I am using version 6.0.2600.0000 if internet explorer if that is of any help.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to resolve this issue. The copy of Windows XP home is legal.

    Regards

    Hi,

Many thanks for the links. I am still not sure what the problem was but after following the links I called MS and they gave me this link to follow to validate the PC.

    www.microsoft.com\genuine\diag

Having followed the procedure it reported that the PC would now function as a genuine PC (IE I would be able to perform updates on it).

    Many thanks again.

    BrokenPC (But nearly mended!).

You could also manually download SP2 (which is usually faster than letting Windows Update download it). There may have been a patch or something that fixed the problem.
