ok recently I tried copying a audio cd in XP for the first time and when I used Media Player to copy it made a cd but when I went to play the cd I got no sound just like blank tracks..Ive tried to use Clonecd but same thing happens ...the only way I found that works is to copy Cd to hard drive through MediaPlayer and then make cd through MediaPlayer from hard drive to Cd and it worked..what am I doin wrong ???should be easier than copying to hard drive first?? maybe my old cd drive is not liked by XP its a Mitsumi 4821 ...few years old from when I first got a puter ?

M$ has a fairly recent XP update/patch that takes care of quite a few burning issues. Do you have it installed?

    copy cd

Unless you have another cdrom, the only way you can make a copy is download it to the hard drive. You should put what ever you have in the library that was downloaded. When you get done with the D load it will be listed for you, and then you can make your copy. I have done this a lot, and am now about ready to put a cdrom in to save time. If you have the room and no how the price is way down on them. I saw one on sale for $45.00?? somewhere. Get one that has a fairly good speed. The salesman[ person] will give the info and the you can decide on the speed and what you want to spend. Go for it.:D

    cd copy

Whoops I goofed and did not see that you have 2 cdroms. There could be something wrong, but you may want to go over the info on MP, or go to help. That help would be the last resort for me.

    XP/MediaPlayer default config

To cover its self from buffer underrun issues on older systems XP alwasys defaulted to create an image file first - This protects you when converting MP3 back to CDDA. - another area of concern was that burner speeds have taken off, such that the DAE of many DVD drives can't keep up at full speed.

And as stated above there have several patches released - also keep in mind that the "Burning Engine" in XP was licensed from Roxio ( previously known as Adaptec )

Best bet - get a good burning program such as Nero, or get the platnum release from Roxio.
