I received a microsoft word document, attached to an email.

I double-click the email to open the email up.

I double-click the word document, it opens, and I edit it.

I click the close-window "X ". MS word prompts me if I want to save changes.

I click "Yes ", and the MS word file closes.

Now, I CANNOT FIND THE FILE ANYWHERE!

Where on earth has OE saved my file?????

Please help - this is urgent!!

    Thank you,

    Hope this helps!

Open up blank Word document. Click the File option on you menu bar. Make sure the whole menu opens up and not the shortcut menu. *If you see 2 downward pointing arrows under the "Exit" option then you don't have the full menu opened. Click on those downward pointing arrows and you will have the full menu. Right above the "exit" option you will see the last 4 items you saved in Word. You should see your file there and just follow the path to find it. EX:C:\man\manual_balance-The file Manual_balance would be on the C drive in a folder called MAN. Got it? I hope this help you out. At the top of the Save box make sure you check to see where your document is being saved, so you will not lose it.:)

Thank you for the reply, but this does not work. The file I just edited, using MS Word, through Outlook Express, does not show up in the last 4 files.

    Try this......

Send yourself an email and attach a word document.
Receive the file and doubleclick the subject line to open the email.
Now, double-click your word file attachment and edit it. Make some changes.
Close the word file and click "yes" to save changes.

Now, open MS Word (outside of Outlook Express). Check the file menu. The file you just edited is NOT there.

Where on earth did OE save my file?

rtstanley: You cannot edit and save a word document from the attachment as it only saves it in a temp. file somewhere and, as you noticed you lose your edits.

You have to save the attachment to your hard drive then open the file with Word, make your edit's, save and then re-attach the doc. file to your outgoing reply.

I know all about this one as my wife and daughter do the same thing, no matter how many times I tell them the proper way to do it.

    JohnB,

Thank you. This is what I thought. Actually, by habit, I always save an attachment to my desktop or folder and then edit it. I actually had sent a legal document to one of my family members, who had edited it throught OE. She spent about 1.5 hours with some very important information that I needed.

In any event, those edits have been lost (she was gracious enough to go through the process again!)

As usual, thank you to all who responded.

BTW - I have not donated to the web site in awhile. How do I go about doing that? I hope it is never dissolved.

Normally your document should open Read-Only. When you make changes & close it, you'll be asked to save. If you click Yes, the Save As window will open, and the location of the document will be in one of the Temporary Internet File folders.
