I was reading some threads about how to remove this. I saw where the guy used HighJackThis to print a log and someone was able to tell him which files in the log to delete. I have ran HJT but am not sure what to delete. Below is a copy of my logfile. Can someone tell me what needs to be deleted. Thanks in advance!:)

Hi James and welcome to the forums.

You have a Nail\Best Offers\Direct Revnue infection here, and we have a fix for it.

BEFORE BEGINNING, Please read completely through the instructions below and download the files from the links provided. You may want to save or print out these instructions for easier reference.

First, download Ewido Security Suite.

Next, download Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and the VX2 Cleaner Plug-in. Install Ad-Aware using the default options, then install vx2cleaner_inst.exe, taking all the defaults there as well.

Run Ad-Aware, update to the latest definitions, then click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK ", then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close ", and exit Ad-Aware.

Reboot your PC and run Ad-Aware again. This time, click on the Start button in Ad-Aware, select "Perform smart system scan" and click Next. Once the scan finishes, click "Next" again. Select all objects found (right click anywhere in the list of found objects and click "Select All Objects "). Click "Next" one more time, then "OK" to confirm the removal.

You will be prompted to set Ad-Aware to run on reboot, click "OK ". Exit Ad-Aware and restart your PC once again.

When Ad-Aware starts up, click on "Start ", then "Next ". Follow the steps above if anything is found, or click "Finish ", then exit Ad-Aware.

For a final cleanup, please install and run Ewido.
1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu ".
2. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found! ". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful ")
5. Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
6. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections ". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
7. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report ". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Please finish up by rebooting your system once more, and posting a new HijackThis log and the log from the Ewido scan.

Removing TROJAN AGENT DX/BEST OFFERS

Hey Temerc, I did what you told me to do for the Best Offers Trojan Agent Dx I had on my computer. Ewido removed the Trojans but had an error removing a backdoor Trojan file. The weird webpage that kept replacing my normal homepage is gone.
The HiJACKThis logfile I will post the EWIDO on another thread.

Glad to hear, however, please keep all your replies limited to yuor original thread, its far too confusing to bounce back and forth.

So, please post this HJT logfile and the Ewido log into that thread, thanks, appreciate your cooperation

I was wondering if you got those logfiles I sent to your private email account? I notice that the computer is running slower now and at times goes to a non-responsive state. I get a message window that pops-up saying close the non-responsove program and send or don't send error report. Selecting either option closes out the IE window.

I actually did not get them for some reason they were filtered by my email program. I restored the email, but not 100% of it.

Please resend them, I have added your email address to my 'friends' list.

In the mean time, what I did receive, showed me you're still infected with a nasty, and more than likely the cause of your current problems.

Can you please give me a fresh HJT log file, generated in normal mode, then we'll get the fix for the nasty along with some HJT fixing as well.

Thanks, sorry about the email thing problem.

I did notice when I ran the Ewido scan there is a file that always gets and error when deleting message. Here is a copy of it: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\winik.sys -> Rootkit.Agent.q : Error during cleaning. All the other Trojans file that came up when I first scanned deleted fine. I also sent this to your personal email.

OK, very good, lets get the nasty first off.

Download WinKRootKitRemover to your desktop.
• Double-click the icon to open the program
• Then, click RUN and then START
• Save the log it creates to your desktop.
• Follow the prompts and reboot when necessary (your system will reboot twice; this is normal).
• When the tool is finished, please post the contents of the log here along with a new HijackThis log.
• Please also run a full scan with your antivirus and let me know if winik.sys is still detected

OK, lets finish this up.

color=red]Please follow these instructions, exactly, for proper HJT installation. Please place HJT into ITS OWN PERMANANT FOLDER. It also needs to be removed from the desktop.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. (C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe)Move HijackThis.exe into this folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.

Please go to Add/Remove, and if found, uninstall the following:
Market Browser

Run Hijackthis and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes next to them and press the "Fix Checked" button with HijackThis. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, or other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

OK, that is a clear log file, nice work!!

Are you experiencing any more unusual activity on your machine at this point? Please let me know, thanks.

---->>>>CRUCIAL!! Vital Importance, I notice your OS/IE is not properly updated, please go to the Windows Update page, and load up all 'Critical Updates'. As this will ensure your IE is as protected as is possible. Follow this link:
Windows Update Page

Now that you have regained control of your machine, lets keep it clean. Please follow the links below to ensure the highest possible level of protection against any further invasions. The links and the apps are some of the most highly regarded apps in the field of security/protection & detection. Run AdAware & Spybot at least once a week, depending on your surfing habits.
Spybot Search & Destroy v1.4
Ad-Aware SE Free v1.06r

With AdAware and Spybot: DL, install then check for updates, then scan, repair/remove/quarantine anything found. Reboot before next scan with whichever app is next.

SpywareBlaster will prevent known ActiveX installs, by setting killbits into the registry.
With Spyware Blaster, just DL, check for updates, enable Internet Explorer protection, and your done! I don't recommend using 'Restricted Sites' protection in SpywareBlaster nor the 'Immunize' feature in Spybot, you can get far greater coverage with IE-SPYADs, listed below.

To avoid known malware infested sites from loading in IE install IE-SPY ADS.
And MVPS Hosts File will provide another layer of protection.

And to prevent unknown applications from being installed on your machine install WinPatrol v9.8.1.0.

Tutorials for all can be found on my site as well.

Confused about which apps are good or not? Read about Rogue/Approved Anti Security apps

And just because you have security apps installed, they are useless unless updated regularly. Keep track of updates for ALL your security needs here:
Calendar of Updates

Subscribe to update alerts for all the above security apps here.

You can also see my own ongoing security testing with all the above apps proving how securely you can safe with them installed.

Happy surfing!

Yeah it is still running slow at times and then other times it goes to a none responsive state. A window usually pops-up and ask if I want a report sent for the non responsive program that is running. It is still kind of slow upon start-up. Not as slow as it has been but still a little slow. I am thinking to check the registry to see what is starting when the computer is first rebooted. Thanks for all you help so far. That WINIK was a real BOOGER! I will DL all the anti-virus software that you recommended. This is actually my mother-in-laws computer that I am working on. She is really happy that the virus is gone. Thanks again! Do you have a webpage?

OK to assist with start ups here is an excellent site for that:
AnswersThatWork
Just go to the appropriate letter, and search for the process/exe, they will give good detailed info regarding it, we use it quite often.

Try to stay away from the registry unless you're well versed in how to navigate it.

Another thing which will also hinder speed is the RAM and processor spex. It may be time for a bump up in RAM.

And yes, I have a forum and a website

Glad I was able to help out.

Tom
