I have a window XP Pro with SP2 network (peer to peer) but one of the computers all of a sudden cannot be accessed.

I've checked everything that i can think of but no joy. Sharing is turned on etc. I can't find any setting that's different to other computers on the network. This computer can still access files on the others

    Can someone help please?

Hello adonis and welcome to the Board :)

I've added detail to your title and moved it to the Networking section.

    Regards - Charles

Turn sharing off, reboot & then run sharing wizard again. Maybe that should fix it.

Have you tried turning all firewalls off, including the Windows one (sometimes after running a wizard it pops back on)?

Also "“ out of curiosity "“ are you running Norton Anti-Virus? If so did this happen after an update to it?

I have tried turning the Windows firewall off but doesn't help. Other computers have it running and can still be accessed ok. I've checked settings on those other computers and they look the same - unless there is some obscure setting I don't know about that has been changed.

Yes, the probelm computer is running Norton's Anti Virus but I can't say whether or not the problem started after an updtate. This problem started about 3-4 months ago.

    Network problem

I've tried accessing through Network Places via windows explorer or My Computer and via programs eg Word, to open a file

The computer can be pinged in the command screen

Can you access the pc via \\computer_name entered in Windows Explorer address bar (where computer_name is the name of the computer)? You can also try \\IP_address.

If you want quick access, you can create a shortcut to the PC. Enter \\computer_name in the "Type the location of the item" box and call the shortcut the name of the computer. Then put that shortcut in an easily located folder in My Documents.

Try 'Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP' in TCP/IP WINS tab.
