I just installed an old hd drive (IDE) as a slave onto a system containing a hd drive already running Win ME. I don't know what operating system it was running before, but when I try to view its contents in 'My Computer', all of the original file folders are renamed in a generic sequence. I am performing a check for errors on the drive, but don't think that will do much to help. All I need is to be able to see the original file names. What do I do?

Is the file structure on the old drive one that can be recognized by Windows ME, (i.e., FAT12, FAT16, FAT32)?

For example, Windows ME cannot access the files on a hard drive that was used on a Macintosh, or even Windows XP's NTFS.
