I was trying to change the icon for the folders via Tools > Folder Options > File Types > File Folder & Folder

I changed File Folder, and attempted Folder, then something strange happened. Whenever I tried to open folder, it would open up Windows search. For example, if I tried to open My Music, Windows search would open up with My Music folder selected as the dir to search.

So I went back into Folder Options > Advanced for File Folder and Folder. I noticed that there was no open for action, so I made sure both had an open that would run from explorer.

Now, the folders will open up, but each one now gets its own window.

Any idea how to change it? Thanks!

Tools > Folder Options > "General tab" there is an option to open folders in the same window.

    I wish that would work.

Like I mentioned, I created an action for the folders:

open, and use explorer to open them. I am pretty sure this is why they open in a new window. However, when I go into advanced, I can not delete or edit the action.

Maybe I could make a new action for them to do that would cause them to open in the same window. But it does not let me leave the program field empty.

Any help or suggestions? It really is an annoyance, and I would like to be rid of it as soon as possible.

Do a System Restore to a restore point prior to making the changes.

File Folder should only have a find action listed, while Folder has both explore and open.

Haha, that's actually what I was trying to avoid. Is there any other way to get around this? A friend of mine said to try Tweak UI, but that didn't have any options for this. I'm not sure if there is any other way. Haha, yeah, I know I _could_ do a restore, but I'd rather save that as a last resort.

Why are you trying to avoid system restore? It shouldn't really cause any problem unless this has been a problem for quite some time now. If you choose a restore point that's dated just before the problem occurred, and it's only been a few days, there won't be much that you'll lose (if anything). Worst case senario is you'd have to reinstall a program or two (any program you've installed since the problem first occurred).

Unless, you're confusing system restore with using a restore cd like those that come with most OEM systems. The system restore Arie's talking about is in start>all programs>accessories>system tools\system restore.

I am trying to avoid a system restore because it's a preference. Is there anything wrong with restoring? Most likely not. Is there anything wrong with not restoring? I'd prefer it as a last resort. The reason I came here was so that I would not have to do one, as everybody know that they can usually just restore if they messed something up an hour ago.

LoL, no, I'm not. I'm quite familiar with both, and if I had wanted to just restore, I would not have come here seeking help.

As it stands now, a friend of mine who is skilled with EU issues found a fix for it. Thank you for your time.
