No sound on Win98 SE COMPUTER

    Hello guys--I am new at posting,so bear with me please.
    problem-- no sound on Win98 SE computer
    In device manager,I checked out sound,and expanded it got Via Audio controller-sigmatel codec,went to properties and it says this device is working properly.
    Any suggestions to clesr up this problem????

    BERT 5 - Welcome to the Board :)

    Check out a few basic things ....

    Whatever sound control panel you have check that the sound is not set to Mute.

    Check that the speakers are plugged in correctly and powered up

    If neither of the above apply uninstall the Via Audio through Device Manager and reboot to let Windows find it again.

    BTW - 'Device working Properly' can be misleading :)

    I will check all the things you suggested and get back as soon as possible,I will not be back till tomorrow,so please forgive me for being so slow,but things came up that I have to take care of.---BERT 5

    Bert - you are most welcome :) Which of the three suggestions fixed the problem?

    Hello Pete C:
    I checked out all the connections out to my speakers, everything looked good so went into device manager and expanded " Sound" and removed via audio controller,rebooted and windows found the device and found driver for it now it works fine--Thanks again---Your pal BERT 5
