Missing e-mail files after new install

I recently had to re-install win98 because of corruped files. I heard that the best procedure is to re-name the old window file and then install the new Win98 in a clean file. I saved the old Windows file in C:\xwindows file.
The installation went well except my old addreses were missing along with my old saved e-mail files in Outlook Express. I was able to recover the Addresses from the old outlook files but haven't been able to recover the old e-mails which I believe has something to do with Idenities. When I try to read the old e-mails with Wordpad most of the data is garbage but if I look hard enought I can find the message. Is there a way of getting my old e-mails back in my new Outlook Express and is there a way of reading my old e-mails without printing out all the garbage. I also noticed that if you look at a newly formed file it starts off with 59K of garbage with nothing in the file. What's this all about ??

 

oehrle--This might still work since you have isolated your old files from the new (and therefore in some respects would be transferring from "one PC to another ")

Funny I had tried that before but it didn't work because apparently when I changed the windows to Xwindows it also changed folders,dbx to foldersX.dbx It didn't work. I dropped the "X" and it worked like gang busters
