I have connected to a LAN recently and everything functions properly except when I attempt to share any files. The other users can see my pc over the network and attempt to go into my shared files to leech what they want, however it constantly asks for a password to IPC$ ......... I have no idea what this is and have never been asked to set a password for this resource. I have changed permissions to everyone, guest, administrator but still the same thing. I have attempted using my personal password, administrator password, guest and some other random guesses but it never allows me in. Any ideas of how to disable this IPC$ which seems to be some sort of default share folder or how I can obtain the password to allow people to access my files, this becomes very embarrasing when promising to trade files etc. and it just doesnt happen any input would be great. So far from microsoft I have absolutely nothing of value other than check your permissions which I have done about 3000 times. Thanks in advance too :)

The users trying to log in, are they allowed?

What I mean is, are they logging in as a user you gave permissions to on your system?

You're trying to share the default hidden system share. Create a new share, giving it any name you want, and assign appropriate permissions.

obenton Has given you the truth.

Any share name with a $ in the name is a system share and no one will be able to access it as such. When you create the new share name the system share will still be there along with the new one.

BTW Don't share the entire C: drive or which ever drive the O/S is on (mine would be G:) - thats asking for disaster.
