This problem seemed to have just started. I can hear mp3, au, wav, and all of the other audio files from web sites except midi (mid) files. I have looked everywhere and even tried Google for the problem. Can any one offer suggestions?

    Thanks

First check that you still have the ability to play midi files.

If you go to C:\Windows\Media there should be a few midi files there - double click on one of these - does it play?

Well this is going to seem strange, but I posted my original message before I went to bed last night. This morning I checked the web pages again and the midis played with no problem. The only thing I did over night was back up my C:\ (System) drive. Go figure!!

A reboot - which is what I guess you did can work wonders. Always the 'first port of call' in my book :)

Just wanted to pass on some information on this issue. The problem recurred again and with a little time and trial and error I determined sith the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) that the problem was caused by 2 items in the start up process. After finding them I deleted them from the registry and hopefully this will be the end of it. Just thought I would pass this on incase someone else has the same kind of problem.:D :D

Thanks for the update. It would be most helpful if you could post details of the startup items you referred to for future reference.

Sorry, in my case there were 2 files for the Sound Max software which were installed with the Intel set up disk for my motherboard. Apparently they conflicted with the Windows Sound software in the operating system. I hope this helps.:D
