    I have a home network wherein a Netgear router is wired to a desktop and a laptop is connected wirelessly. The desktop has a printer connected to it for which I have enabled sharing. When I try to use the Printer Wizard on the laptop to connect to the printer, the wizard’s search mechanism does not display the printer; it only displays:
    “Microsoft Windows Networkâ€
    “MSHOMEâ€
    “Netware or Compatible Networkâ€
    Also please note that the network was configured by the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility. Any ideas on how I should proceed ?

    Actually nothing, the hour glass appears for about 10 seconds, then the cursor returns to its arrow icon.

    I should add that when I click NEXT I get the message "You need to specify a valid network printer name. "

    At the very start of the add printer function, do you get asked if you want to install a local printer or a network printer?

    Yes there are two check boxes, one for local and the other for network; I check Network Printer.

    The problem has been solved by the following advice I received.

    You can bypass the wizard all together.

    On the computer where the printer is shared go to
    start -> run -> "cmd" -> enter
    at the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" and press enter
    In the data that comes up, look for the line that says hostname and make a note of the name.

    On the computer you want to access the printer on, go to
    start -> run -> \\[hostname] (where [hostname] is replaced with the hostname of the computer with the printer). If you've shared the printer properly, and the computer come up, you should see the shared printer.
    //
    Following that advice, the shared printer did, indeed, display, and when I attempted to print a document the printer was not displayed as an option, so I selected the ADD A PRINTER option, which then displayed the Printer Wizard, which did not list any printers. However, when I entered the host computer name, the Wizard appended the printer name, and I was able to print (again) ! Also I might mention that before the document printed, I received a warning message saying the host computer was downloading a printer driver to my remote computer.

    Thank you for your attention to my problem; I'm sure I'll be posting additional queries for which I will be grateful for your help.
