What sort of files - data or Windows files?

First look in the Recycle Bin - they may still be there.

If not try this freeware program File Recovery

Use the computer as little as possible before attempting recovery - the files will be overwritten sooner rather than later. Note - deleting a file in the usual way merely removes reference to it in the MFT - Master File table. The actual file remains on disk with the space being marked as available for overwriting.

bigboscoe--Do you have a floppy drive? If so, per PeteC's advice, you want to avoid writing to the harddrive as much as possible before trying to recover the deleted files. Restoration is small enough to fit on a floppy.

And you run it from the floppy.
Of course, I guess you could download File Recovery and burning to a CD using another PC. The download of File Recovery could be just the thing to write over the data you want to recover.

I got the recovery tool you (WelshJim) noted. It worked to perfection. I also downlaoded, and burned to a disk, the tool that Pete noted. Thanks for the info, you two. It will definitely be helpful in the future.
