I have had a sound problem for a long time now. I really want to get it fixed. I am running xp sp2. My sound does not work, if I go to the SoundMax control panel and press "defaults" then "apply ". The sound will come back just briefly and then go off again.
When I click "test ". I get the following error message "Control Panel regitery entry is corrupted "
I am wondering if there is an easy fix for this or do I have to take it in. I did take it in a long time ago and he told me the sound card was fine and that I probably had a corrupted file and would have to reformat my hard drive..... aghhhhhhhh!!!!
Hope someone can help here, I would really appreciate it.

    TIA... Nils

    Hi,
As it says, SoundMax is a Control Panel. It is not part of the main audio system.

There will be a listing for SoundMax in Add/Remove programs. Remove/uninstall it, then test the sound again.

SoundMax would not be required to run the audio so you could leave it uninstalled if you like or try reinstalling it again if you find you use it.

If uninstalling SoundMax did not cure the problem you may need to reinstall the audio drivers and even uninstall and reinstall them.

Unless it is a separate audio card, the drivers (Edit: and the SoundMax installation program) will be on the drivers CD that came with the computer (there may be updated drivers at the computer/motherboard manufacturer's website).

    Hey guys...
Thanks so much for the info...... I uninstalled SoundMax and now my sound works. I think that was installed when i got the computer, I thought I needed that to get sound.
Can't believe I went all this time without sound. Also glad I didn't listen to the tech and re-format!
Easy fix, much appreciated!!!:) If I have problems in the future, I will try downloading the drivers at the link you sent.

    Thanks..... Nils
