So, I just went into my pictures and clicked on the icon to "open an image for editing" and all it does is go to the list that asks you what you want to open the image with? So, I pick the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" and it just takes me back to the begining? Why won't it let me edit the photos anymore?

    shansta--
I am not sure I understand that. I cannot find such an icon in C:\Documents\My Pictures.
Or by "icon" do you just mean the icon of the image file?

When I want to open an image file I left click on the image file's icon. Since I have associated each image type file with a specific graphics viewer/editor, the picture automatically opens. I am not offered a list of programs to use to open the image--though I could get such a list by right clicking on the image icon and then "Open With ".

What happens if you pick another graphics viewer/editor from the list? That might help define if the problem is with WPFV, lack of an association or the Open With menu.

P.S. The fact that you are being asked what program to use to open the image suggests that specific file type (anyway) is not associated with WPFV. Have you always been choosing the program to use each time you open an image?

I go into "My Pictures ", I select a photo and double click on it. At the bottom right (beside the "? help" icon), there is an icon that is for "Closes this program and opens the image for editing ". When I click on that, the list asking me what program I want to use. I then click on "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" and it takes me back to after I double click on the photo. In other words, all of a sudden, it won't let me open the image in order to edit it. I have never had to do anything with this, it has always just opened. That is what is so strange??

When it ask you to pick some thing to open it with for editing, don't pick " Windows Picture & Fax Viewer" as that is what you are already in , select Windows Office Picture Manager" ( you need a Windows Office Program ). then you can do what you like to it. If no Picture Manager use some thing like Pro 7 or such. If you give us a list of your " Open With" choices.we may be able to help.
    Cheers Des.

The picture is already opened in the Picture and Fax Viewer. When you're prompted as to which program to use to edit it you select Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, so it just goes back there. You need to select a different program. I don't know what program it used to use but try selecting Paint when prompted and see if that's what you're after.
