    “Hello,
I have an unusually expensive piece of hardware from Mackie...(professional recording equipment) called Ultramix.
It is a stand alone automation system that would allow me to automate my recording consoles faders for mix down.
The Ultramix System has a Windows 95 software that runs the program with the hardware....

This system cost me 3,000 hard earned dollars to buy in 1997...I can't afford a newer recording console with automation.
Mackie didn't bother to upgrade or update the software when Windows 98 came along...

My question is.......Can I use Windows 98SE or Windows XP in some kind of Windows 95 compatability mode like the XP does for video games that were made pre XP...?  :eek:â€

It shouldn't hurt a thing to pop in the disks and give it a whirl.

    Hi Spyware Dr. and Steve,

Thank you for the very informative links..
If I use Windows 98SE would the compatability issue be easier to resolve than trying to get compatability with XP????

I am trying to figure which OS to load on the machine once I change the bad Motherboard for one that works......

Windows 98 is closer to (in the same family as) Windows 95.

Windows XP is more stable than Windows 98.

Might be worth it to try a dual-boot setup.

Install 98 first, then XP. (On two separate partitions).

    You're welcome. :)

First thing I'd try is to see if it's possible to get your Mackie Ultramix System working as it should on Windows XP, (in come sort of 'compatibility' mode).

If that doesn't work, then I'd try a dual-boot setup.

    blakston6286,
If you are serious about Dual Booting you may want to visit this site, and study all that's necessary before taking the plunge. There's a wealth of useful information available.
BTW I am using some really old software/hardware and do have a need for Win98SE, bu I also have XP installed on the same partitioned Hard Drive (120GB). The only caveat I have is don't install 98 with a PC that has more than 512MB RAM, the reason being system stability. XP will take more, but 98 is kind of squirly.
    Good luck.
