Hi, I've just put together a new system and would like to transfer a partition from my old PC to the new one, whilst keeping the OS on that partition bootable. I'll explain the situation -

My old PC has a tri-boot of Windows XP, Suse and Ubuntu, installed in that order (each OS on a seperate partition on the same drive). The bootloader I use is the GRUB bootloader that came with Ubuntu. I'd like to, if possible, copy the XP partition over to my new PC and be able to boot straight into Windows. Can anyone please tell me if this should be a simple process using something like Norton Ghost or Acronis software?

Any advice and/or recommendations are much appreciated.

I'm assuming  that the 'new' computer has different hardware than the old computer... which means all the drivers in your WinXP installation are not the correct ones. A 'clean' install would be a much better route to take.

Mr B is correct. Also would mention that activation of the new install will be impossible because microsoft only allows one computer for each install CD.

Oh well, I was hoping to save some money and somehow get around buying a XP upgrade pack. Serves me right for being such a cheap-ass. I suppose at least the file and settings transfer wizard will make life a bit easier.

Thanks for the advice anyhow, people :)
