    Hi all,

    I have w2k professional and I would like to know how to set the web site I want to be the default web site. I tried to change the default website under the properties of IE 5.0 and tried to remove all the temporary internet files but to no avail. The next thing I would like to try is the registry but I do not know where is the value to change.

    Please advice.
    Eric:confused:

    Eric: Open IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, now you'll see where you can change the start page. Use Current , means the one opened now, use default would be MSN, use blank, is a very fast starting page, of course!! :D Hth, enjoy, George.

    Look for a value in the right pane named "Start Page ". This is in win98 so I don't know if it is the same for you or not. If not, use the find feature in regedit and search for the string "start page" (without the quotes).

    Microsoft.. IEAK

    Internet Explorer Administrators Kit.

    With this one, you can set a Home page up, and no one using your computors can change it. There are sites out, that when you visit, they change your Homepage startup to their start page.

    They get credit for the hits..
    But with this little goodie, they can't touch it.. That part is OFFLIMITS.

    But then I do it a different way.
    I wrote me a start up page which is on my local computer. It has most of my favorite URL 's on it, News, Progs, boards, Email, etc.
    But it also has a small section at the top that when I click on it, it auto resets my homepage BACK to my computer again.
    Then I backed that up with an Office Bar shortcut to that Web page..

    Those changing my homepage no longer bother me... I jsut reset it.. before the pop up fully loads my homepage is back to what it was before they changed it. If you want the code I can send it...

    Web HTML to SET your OWN page

    <div align= "center "><a href= "#" onclick= "this.style.behavior='url(#default#homepage)';this.setHomePage('E:/PopBase/Bookmark1.html'); "><b>-Make <strong>PopBase</strong> My Start Page-</b></a><br>
    </div>

    NOTES:
    Change this part above ('E:/PopBase/Bookmark1.html'); ">
    To the web page of your choice.
    SWhen run, this code asks you IF you want to set your home page to the one named... enter yes and it is changed.

    This works, if YOU have editors control over the web page in question...

    Make certain you dont' break up the line, they go on one line to fit right.

    Let me know if this works for you....

    The other part of that is for Web pages that think they know what size you need to have your IE set for... Unfortunately they don't change it back when they are done.
    Try this Java script for that.
    It is placed in your <Head> tags </head>
    <Head>
    <SCRIPT TYPE= "text/javascript ">
    <!--
    function popup(mylink, windowname)
    {
    if (! window.focus)return true;
    var href;
    if (typeof(mylink) == 'string')
    href=mylink;
    else
    href=mylink.href;
    window.open(href, windowname, 'width=780,screen.availHeight, toolbar=1, menubar=1, scrollbars=1, resizable=1,location=1, directories=1, status=1');
    return false;
    }
    //-->
    </SCRIPT>
    </head>

    You can alter the width=780 to what you want, and the same change to screen.available.availHeight just change that to a number, and that is the width x height of your IE screen when the page loads. And always reset to this everytime it reloads. :cool:

    Let me know if it helps....?

    ericwi--Is some other page taking over your start page, each time you reboot, even after you have changed to a page you prefer? If so, you may have some program trying to "Hijack" your start page.
    I am sure JerryM's suggestions will work, but maybe something simpler will be worth a shot.
    Go to Start|Run|type MSCONFIG and click OK. On the StartUp tab do you see any programs that look unfamiliar, especially one (s) with the name of the unwanted start page? If so, uncheck the box to the left, set your start page to what you want and see what happens next time you reboot.
    If that does not help post back and we can go into some of the more complicated fixes. And tell us what the unwanted start page is.

    Try this ...

    1. Click on the "Tools" button at the top of internet explorer.
    2. Scroll down to the "Internet Options" button and click on it.
    3. Go to the advanced tab in the internet options screen and click it.
    4. Find the "browsing" section in this area. DE-SELECT the "Enable third party browser extensions, reboot needed" little box. (about 10 or 15 from the top of browser section)
    5. Restart internet explorer.
