    hello all together!

after having trouble with blue screens on my old XP
i installed totally new hardware (MB, Graphic, Harddisk, CPU, Memory).
then i used a partition magic image of my XP drive to boot and installed
    the appropriate drivers and software.

Then experiencing again blue screens i surrendered
and reinstalled XP SP2 on a fresh partition (H:).

    all microsoft updates are installed.

now again the blue screen killed my work.

i have an ASRock 775Dual-880Pro with 2659 MHz Dual Core CPU,
1 GB RAM, SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE.

below an output from system diagnostics
    and the KD analyze output.

    any help is much appreciated.

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If kernel debugger is available get stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: f7e59a00, memory referenced
    Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
    Arg3: 00000001, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: eeda07f4, address which referenced memory

Two quick suggestions - run chkdsk /f on all the partitions and update your drivers. See if it works.

    thanks for answering.

i had installed the pre-versions of audio and graphic card drivers.
but now i have the latest installed.

BIOS version was and is up to date.

Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller:
    5.10.0.6080 from 10.05.2006

    SAPPHIRE RADEON X3000SE

    CATALYST® Control Center Version 1.2.2314.20337

    BIOS-Version/-DATE
    American Megatrends Inc. P1.50, 02.05.2006

i'm just running chkdsk /f on all partitions and let you know the results.

assuming the blue-screen frequency is the same as on the xp system
before (also netbt.sys errors) i can provide a new dump within less than
    3 days.

PeteC: Yes i installed the latest Hyperion Motherboard/Chipset drivers.

Now running chkdsk /f after reboot on H: G: E: drives
    showed some strange behaviour:

The first check on H: proceeded until phase 2 (30 percent),
    then the computer rebooted unexpectedly.

After reboot the check on H: started again, succeeded (no errors).

But before checking next drive G: again a reboot ocurred.

Then after Reboot, checking G: and E: finished successfully (no errors).

Has someone any ideas concerning the unexpected reboots?

Strange. Just to be on a safer side, run chkdsk /f again & see if the same behaviour occurs.

Does it always refers netbt.sys ? If yes, you'll probably need to look into your network.

    rsinfo:

of course this behaviour is not reproducable.
    another chkdsk ran without problems.

i forgot to say that the second reboot after finishing H:
    and before checking G: drive
was expected, because H: is my windows xp system drive.

    another information:
yesterday, some hours before the blue screen occured, when working with
XP the computer rebooted once unexpectedly.
without blue screen, without eventlog entry, just as if the power was
    switched off and on.

id did not mention it here because i thought it was a power failure in our
net (some rain and lightning outside).
but now seeing this "switch off" during chkdsk i remembered it.

    probably a power supply failure?

after installation of XP and during installation of the other sofware, the power supply fan was becoming very loud and we changed the power supply
about 2 days ago. probably the board wouldn't "like" the power supply?

(i remember a similar thread in this forum where a board would run
just with the "old" power supply).
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    Arie:
can't say yet. this was the first BS on this machine after installing
    finished 3 days ago.

and this would also not explain the unexpected reboot during chkdsk, would it?)

from the old computer, which is now thrown away, i have 10 blue screens
within 4 weeks. 5 dmp files i have saved. the are showing :
    netbt.sys
    mrxsmb.sys initialized by VMNetSrv
kmixer.sys also having portcls!PcAddToEventTable in the stack
    rdbss.sys!RxCreateNetFobx
    nt
    as the faulting module.
now you know why i threw it away.

but these dumps are not the subject of this thread.
just mentioned them because of the "network" hint.

It could point to a flaky power supply, but it could also be the PSU is underrated for the system.

    thanks for your effort.

the PSU is a 550 W unit and should be ok. it is brand new.
if the errors continue we will change it.

i had a new effect now. a freezing monitor image twice.
we changed now the graphic card from Sapphire Radeon X300SE (pci express)
to Excalibur Radeon 9250 (AGP) and see what happens.

i will post any new information in this thread.

    addition:

    yep.
we changed RAM with another computer a week ago.
    (sorry, forgot this again.)

the other computer runs with exactly the same MB and now also exactly
the same GraphicCard since then (and also before) without problems.

    but you'll never know.

we put this on the list:
    - wait for crash after graphic card change
    - change PSU
    - change motherboard and cpu (already ordered)
    - change RAM again

if crashing stops after on of those steps -> yummy!

after normally shutting down the system i ran memtest with default
settings. (just one pass). everything was ok.

after reboot the system wants to check my C: drive
and finds a lot of inconsistencies and does some recovery
    into found.000 dir.

probably we should put the harddisc on the list of
    modules to replace?
