I am finally back and recuperating from an operation. First thing I did was check for May updates. It seems the only thing I needed was KB913433 (MS06-020),
but upon further reading at FlashPlayer site, it seems this is only for versions older than what I have. However, Macromedia states that I should update to 8.0.24.0 which I can't download to my computer. I have IE set to run activeX.

Please help me get this onto my computer so I can install from there. TIA.

    Ann--
Versions of what? Flash Player 8 can be installed on almost any system starting with those running Win98/ IE5.5 and more modern.

The fact that you are getting updates from the Windows Update site suggests that you meet the necessary requirements.

Try putting the Flash Player download site into your Trusted Sites. Uncheck the box "Require Server Verification.... ".
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BIOW

    That download is for IE.
P.S. When you get to the download site, uncheck the box that will also install Yahoo!'s Toolbar. You do not want that.
