    Hello.
I would like to export a list of all my music, so I can import it into a database. Is there a way to generate an output file with file level detail, including some file attributes and the directories/sub-directories where that file lives?

For example, it would be great if I could get an output something like this:

    MyDocs(dir) MyMusic(dir) Artist(dir) Album(dir) Song(file) Size(file attribute) BitRate(file attribute)
    MyDocs(dir) MyMusic(dir) Artist(dir) Album(dir) Song(file) Size(file attribute) BitRate(file attribute)
    MyDocs(dir) MyMusic(dir) Artist(dir) Album(dir) Song(file) Size(file attribute) BitRate(file attribute)
    MyDocs(dir) MyMusic(dir) Artist(dir) Album(dir) Song(file) Size(file attribute) BitRate(file attribute)
    MyDocs(dir) MyMusic(dir) Artist(dir) Album(dir) Song(file) Size(file attribute) BitRate(file attribute)
    MyDocs(dir) MyMusic(dir) Artist(dir) Album(dir) Song(file) Size(file attribute) BitRate(file attribute)

I relealize some sub-directories may have multiple other sub-directories and others may not...so, maybe the columns will be null in some instances...not sure how that would be handled.

If anyone can point me in the right direction or knows of a helpful utility, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks!
    David

    Thanks!

Yes, the Karen Directory Printer program is pretty useful. From there, I can dump into Excel and scrub pretty easily with a macro.

    FYI...
CMD promt command to create a similar file is:
    dir *.* /s > output.txt

This provides folder level headings and then file level detail. With a Perl script parse or maybe something like Monarch, this would work too. However, Karen's program seems to do a lot of that work for me...

    Thanks again.

    Perfect Tool

    A quick follow-up...
The export tools mentioned above were good...and I will likely use in the future for other purposes. However, they did not capture the meta-data tag which reports the year of the album, genre, etc.

There are specific mp3 file management utilities that allow you to cleanly generate and export such lists. I am new to the world of digital music...and just found this later this evening.

I looked at a few different apps, and I think this is probably the best I found.

Thanks again for your help. This post drifted a little from the world of "XP "...but hopefully someone else will find useful, or you can refer another similar question to our responses here.
