When I open certain web sites, IE crashes and goes to desktop. Other sites are fine. Have not gone to all the sites in favorites, to check this. This just started today. It also crashes with Opera browser. I also have a computer in another room that is wireless to the same Modem, and it works. I am guessing that it is something in this computer.
Compaq Presario, WindowsXp, SP2, 705 MGB of ram, AMD sempron 3000+ 2.00 GHz

Hi Pete C. I Have already cleaned all Temporary Internet, History, and Cookies files. No help. I do not think that would help Opera, and it did not.

If both Opera and IE crash, it sounds as though it would be related to Windows somehow. However, there's not a whole lot to go on here. Could you post a link to one of the pages that's a problem? Maybe we could figure out something from taking a look at one.

I see that page uses shockwave flash. Try disabling it, then see if the page will work for you. In IE click tools>internet options>program tab. Click the manage add-ons button and in the list, find and disable Shockwave Flash Object. Then, close and reopen your browser and see if the page works for you.

Disable Shockwave Flash does not help.

wahlroot--Clicking that netscape link redirects to http://www.weather.com/
It also shows that a popup is blocked. That causes no problem for me, but do you have more than one popup blocker running? Actually I have two (WindowsXP and Google Toolbar). But perhaps some others might cause a conflict. You could try turning all off and, if that solves the problem, then turning them on one by one again.
Did you install some new hard/software just prior to the problem?
What does Event Viewer tell you right after one of these incidents?
    (Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Event View|System.)
If nothing else helps, you could try a System Restore to a date prior to the problem starting.

HI Welshjim! Following is a text file showing Errors, and Warnings on the 24th. This is the time the problem started. I had a problem with my DSL, and had Qwest over to try and solve it. No help. The only thing changed was some new phone wires into the house. A little faster downloads. I messed with DSL and got it working again. Do not know what fixed it.

Wahlroot--We need more info about those Error reports from Event Viewer. See the attachment at the bottom.
You can see the detail already provided when you first click on the Error. Then you can click on the "go" link to get more. A solution is often suggested.

I went back to the Event Viewer and noticed several Warnings that have something to do with DHCP is causing a problem with my ISP furrnishing an IP address. I have gone to System Restore, before this started, and can now get on the internet, and sites, sometimes. I will go back to the next one tomorrow, and see if it gets better.
