Head Ache with HP and XP

"I have a HP computer bought at Walmart by my Step Mother in 2001 . It is a
pre programmed computer with Xp as the operating system. Code is on the side
of machine I have no CD. I had a freind put a new Mother Board in it and now
Windows Tell me I need to register. Well it gives me an activation Window and
numbers to enter a automated phone number to call and then it tells me I have
a bad number and I need to return the product. It is alomost like they think
the copy of XP is no good. I am sure there is an easy answer to this but it is
over my head. I am in a small town and there are no computer people here. Can
you offer any advice on what I should do. I get on line threw a web assitant
in the activation window but I have no operating system. No desk top cant
access my computer or documents nothing. "

I have a copy of XP that is not the one that came with the computer but I cant prompt the CD to play.

 

Microsoft Goes by your motherboard Hardware Id number When you Register it...If it notices the Motherboard Serial has changed It will blackList your Number. All you need to do Is call Microsoft And they will give you a new Serial at no charge

 

Do you have a Number ?

The phone number it offers me is totaly automated and offers no option to speak to anyone. Microsoft is not easy to speak to..

Thanks Error and Pete C. I got ahold of Micro Soft it is fixed. I cant tell you how pleased I was to see my desktop. Realy awsome page and thank you for your input !!!!!
