a picture has been downloaded in my background area that is offensive. I can select it but not delete it. How do I delete a picture in my background area?

That's called Wallpaper and the file (.bmp) can be in a number of locations. Right-click the open Desktop and select Properties > then select Desktop. The highlighted file there will be the one you need to destroy. Use the Search and look for the exact name given as the highlighted file. When found, delete it and it will no longer appear on the list of available Wallpaper.

Then dump it from the Recycle Bin in order to never see it again.

If the offensive picture is currently being used for the desktop's background, you should probably select another picture to use for the background before trying to delete the one you don't like. It may not let you delete it if it's in use.

    re: your PM Sam,

You must do a search of your drive for the file named internet explorer wallpaper.bmp Be sure to include the spaces in the search criteria.

When you get the results of that, highlight and delete all found. It will be deleted in spite of the fact that you are currently using it. No problem. (Miz, this one-eyed monster never fails to amaze. :) )

Reboot and you will see the results. Now right-click the open Desktop > Properties > Desktop > and select a different Theme for your current Wallpaper or select None, if you so desire.

If it turns out it's not in the list of wallpapers, in the same place you change the wallpaper, click on the customize desktop button and then click on the web tab. Uncheck anything that's in the box under web pages. If it's listed there, you can delete it by clicking on it to highlight it and then click the delete button.
