Well, I'm back with another problem. Here's the basic details...

When I'm on the Internet, I keep getting pop-ups for "WinAntiVirus ". I know it's some problems because I get these pop-ups from my own personal site

After I get this pop-up or a product of the same company, I get a 2nd one with a URL that containts sysprotect.com. After I close that a dialog box appears with "You have not completed your scan..." and what not. When I close that, it shuts down my Internet Explorer. Occasionally, I get pop-ups from **** Sites, mainly Adult Friend Finder (adultfriendfinder.com)

I also have other problems. My computer is extremely slow, especially with loading when I turn it on. My background image loads first and then 5-10 minutes later my icons and task bar load.

When I try to put it in Safe Mode...it can take up to an hour to finally get into the mode. Some of my desktop items also dissappear. Also, in Normal Startup, my computer freezes more often

Spybot found an "WinAntiVirus" entry and said it removed it, but it didn't matter. I also use Norton Anti Virus, Ad-Aware, SpySweeper. My Registry Mechanic isn't evaluated, it's just free, therefore, I cannot remove those problems

Here is my HiJack This log

    Sorry for the double post

Anyways, it's gotten worse. Now my computer is constantly freezing and when programs become non-respondant, CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't do a thing.

It's become slower and slower as well

Also, if this is in the wrong forum, someone please move it XX

restart comp in Safe Mode w/out networking &

    1. delete ALL files & folders in c/docs & settings/your_username/local settings/temp/
    2. go to control panel/internet options & delete ALL temp internet files & cookies
    3. rescan w/ HjT, out a check next to the following & press the Fix button:
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    4. uninstall Winantivirus from add-remove programs.
    5. scan comp w/ Webroot.
    6. scan comp w/ Norton.

That is understood, but WinAntiVirus may well be installed on your computer - from outside and without your knowledge.

Please follow TonyT's instructions - they are crystal clear.

I know they're clear, but I mentioned it because it's not on the list. I guess I shoulda said it, I kinda implied it

I'll try these directions in a few minutes

Ok, now I've got an issue

I caanot get my computer to load anymore since I set it to load in Safe Mode. I tried to boot it into Safe Mode and it gets about halfway there

It loads really slow and then goes up to the screen where you can pick your log-in - for me it's my username or Administrator

When I choose my username, it loads and then goes to a screen that says Safe Mode in the corner, like normal. However, from here, it does nothing., I kept it on for 2 hours straight and nothing happened. Also, every time I boot into safe mode, a dialog box usually pops up saying something like "you are now working in safe mode" blah blah whatever. I need to usually press yes, however, no I can't press anything because it only shows up for less than a second and then it dissappears

So....I guess this only made my problem worse. I don't know how to get back into normal mode now either, because it's like I'm stuck in "limbo "

So...I don't know what to do

Sorry to bump this, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to somehow start a computer in normal mode without somehow removing the check of the boot tab when I do Start>Run>MSConfig

Just was wondering if there was a way because then I could scan in normal mode, remove anything there, and then try to run it in safe mode once again.

I apologice for being a bit impatient, but I actually needed to do something this Memorial Day weekend and I'm hoping to get this problem fixed as soon as I can

    Thanks

If you have a full copy of XP - not a Restore CD you could try a Repair of XP

I can give you no guarantee that attempting a repair will be successful - it may make matters worse.

Nothing that TonyT suggested would have the effect you post.

How did you first boot into Safe Mode? By using MSCONFIG? If so, start the computer & tap the F8 key during start process to get a boot menu. Then select Safe Mode without Networking. Then logon as Administrator. Once logged on, go to MSCONFIG & make necessary changes. And while at it do the fixes I suggested.

    I did MSConfig, BootTab>/SAFEBOOT

Since than it hasn't worked. When I press the power button on my laptop, lkike usually,t the next time I turn my computer a menu comes up with 5 options and a description. Something like

"Windows did not shut down properly. This could be because of a power failure or the power button was pressed.

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
    Last Known Configuration
    Start Windows Normally "

When I do your method, I get the same options and more, I saw what you mean. However, I only have the option Safe Mod with networking, not without. After I pick the regular safe mode, just a list of all these things comes up, like Partitions.sys or whatever they are. I pciked regular safe mode in case there is supposed to be an option Without instead of With

If that's the one you meant for me to pick, I'll then go ahead and pick it

    Tried it, still doesn't work.

I still cannot click that dialog box that says Yes...that I want to work in Safe Mode

But, I think I got something useful. When I tried the F8 thing, I also tried Normal Mode

Well, when I went to it and then clicked Home Edition, it then said that the system 32 folder was corrupt or something was missing and yada yada whatever

It said I could use a repair disc or something as well

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

    That's the message

Ok, yet another thing goes wrong

I didn't quite understand that link you gave me, so I did what the message said - I used the repair disk. When I put it in, nothing happens, so I can't select 'r' like it said I could

Anybody know what I could do about that?

You will be unable to run the Recovery Console from a repair (recovery) disk - a full copy of XP is required to do this.

If you have a full copy of XP place it in the CD-ROM drive and reboot the computer - i.e. boot from the CD and follow the onscreen instructions.

If you boot from a Recovery CD and follow the instructions to recover your computer (to the state it was in when delivered) be aware that the drive will be formatted and everything on it will be lost.

Well, I put in the recovery disk and nothing happened....

I don't think I have XP laying around, though if it came with my computer, I'll have it and can find it. I'll then follow your instructions

Check in the BIOS that the boot order is CD-ROM > Floppy > Hard Drive and try again.

I'm off to bed - past midnight here.
