Windows XP includes a Back-up program that allows you to BU to floppy disc only. The program allows several options, one of which is backing up your "System State ". Downloading this options,(estimated 2,013 files, 345,018,792 bytes) requires an excessive number of floppies.

Can anyone tell me where I might find the various files or folders covered by "System State" so that I can BU to CD-RW's using EXPLORER and CD CREATOR?

"Boot files, Com + Class Regis..., & Registry" are the results of expanding "System State ". These will not expand further.

    TIA, Jack W

Thanks Rancher, doing that. I want to know what files are covered by this program, so I can return to my present system's operating state should I ever have a problem

    xpbackup

Usually a "restore point" in xp does what ya after here coz if you can't get to the win gui to restore from a backup then you will have to press "F8" on boot & select LAST GOOD BOOT. XP then looks thru it's own bank of restores & launches a good one into windoze. I never count on xpbackup for a system restore but still I backup the whole "C" drive then burn over to cd-rw.:D

Have used Restore and it works well. Will use unless something dramatic happens that requires me to reinstall the operating system.
Luck has been with me thru the WIN 95, 98, and so far XP.
Murphy's Law is sure to hit me one of these days. Thanks for your suggestions.
