    Hi all,

I've just started burning some DVD Dual Layer discs on my Pioneer 108. The computer is only a few months old, with Win XP, 512 MB Memory, Nero Vision Express.

I've recorded some television programs in Sony Vegas 5, then rendered them into AVI streams. I then suppose Nero will render them again into Mpeg 2 streams, as they are burned to DVD.

Up on play back, their is a skip and jump, half way through the DVD. I've burned the same program three times, onto threee different brands of DVD and still the same problem. (Verbatim, program holts - TDK, Program skips around - Sony, Program does a minor skip)

I've checked the integrity of the original media file, and it plays okay. I especially checked the spot where it kept on screwing up, and it played fine.

My question is, Does a dvd burner burn on both layers simutaineously, or does it burn one layer first, then nurn on the second layer?

I suspect the jumping and skipping is happening at the point where the DVD player (Sony DVP NS50P) stops playing the first layer, and then starts playing the second layer. I didn't know that the layer switching would be so pronounced on play back?

    Thanks

    Mark

I was reading about that this week. DVD disks cannot run high resolution video files (and it probably combines with the level of audio reqired at the same time). You may need to reduce the resolution to get it stutter free. They suggested using DivX or Xvid if you are only going to play back through your computer and not through a DVD player.

Let me know if you want me to find the article again for more detail.

Never hurts to update your burner drivers. Updates can fix known problems and increase it's DVD blank media library (instructions/adjustments for burner when dealing with different dyes/DVD media and burn speeds). Your Pioneer drivers can be found here. Double check you model, if it's a Pioneer 108, this should be your required driver ... DVR108-FW120B.exe

Thanks for the drivers. Just downloading them now and installing them. I would have to run through the nero rendering/burn process to see the results, but will post back with verdict. thanks again.
