    Hey Everyone,

I have search and searched for an answer to this question and need some help. I am helping a friend set up a little network at his house.

The goal is to share the printer and files on the "XP pro" computer connected via a wired connection to an "XP home" laptop connected wirelessly through a dlink di 524 router.

I have tried all the obvious, disable windows firewall, checked security etc and had no luck. Any ideas on what can be done?

Gary, don't disable the Windows firewall in either of the system - it would be automatically configured to allow access when you run Networking Wizard.

Can you ping the computers and the router ? Check that DHCP on your router is turned on & turn on your router before any of your computers so that they can get their IP from it.

Create a common user (same name) on both the computers to allow users to share the resources.

I will 100% agree with that. I have a Router with 3 machines and a Printer plugged into it.

I also had a few problems until I powered the Modem, the Router and the Printer from a separate power source that does not get shut down unless we are going to be away for an extended length of time. Then they must be turned on first in order for things to work properly. And when I do turn them on I MUST NOT get in a big hurry to turn a machine on.
