The problem is - None of the screen savers will come on
by themselves. Preview will work. I have the settings set to come on in one
    minute, but no luck.

I've been through the registry and checked the values and they all appear right. I've also run sfc /scannow and no problems have appeared with any of the files.

Any ideas on what may be causing this? Thanks for any help :)

    XP screen saver not working

Post Script: I found the problem by going start/run/Msconfig and looking through the startup tab and unticking any program .exe that I thought should not be running unless the program was in use and then going back to the general tab and clicking selective start up and rebooting to see if that .exe was the problem. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! maybe this can help anyone else having the same problem. :)

    XP - no screen saver

Cyberlink Power DVD - It had been installed on my pc for months with no problems until now but I suspect it gained access to the internet for whatever reasons and caused the process to constantly keep running and consequently the screen saver process which was listening for activity thought that this was activity and did not run itself.

    Hello analeptic,

For deciding if a program should startup or can be on demand, this thread references data bases to lookup startups/processes
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=39425

Autoruns is a far more comprehensive way to see all the startups on your system:
    http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

A startup can either be disabled or deleted. Deletion deletes the reg entry, for whch autoruns keeps a backup.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Charles.

Thanks for the information and link to Autoruns. Rubbing my hands together at being able to slap programs back where they belong!!!!

Thanks again, it's now part of my software.
