    I have such a folder.
    C:\I386\ASMS\60\MSFT\WINDOWS\COMMON
It seems to be a MS folder.
But it does not appear when I boot.
I cannot tell you why it does.
I assume you have looked in Start|Run|type msconfig|OK|Startup tab for anything that might be related. Or in TaskManager. (right click on blank spot on the Taskbar|TaskBar|Processes tab.)

    Possibly some info here

It might be a good idea to check your drive for gremlins.

I'd recommend AdAware to clean any existing malwares and then use SpywareBlaster to prevent getting invaded in the future. Both will require you to manually update their databases, generally weekly is fine.
Both are free unless you want extra features, which are available for a small fee.

Beyond that, check for any virus infectors using any of the free online scans.

    Good luck.

Sounds like an interesting approach. I am surprised AOL permits that.
But maybe that is why you get that Common file on boot?
Does that mean the problem is solved?
If not, surferdude2's idea is good, but if you know the Common file is associated with AOL, it would seem that is where the problem is. Did you look in msconfig and TaskManager?
