Netscape 7.2 Java problem

Firefox and NS8.1 can find the plugins, but with NS7.2, or Mozillas, or earlier such programs you must have the plugins in the plugins folder of 7.2. If NS7.2 was installed before the Java, you would have the plugin files in the plugins folder of 7.2, but, if Java was installed before 7.2, then you would have no file in the folder. Check your Program Files|Netscape|Netscape (not Netscape Browser which is 8.1), or wherever you installed 7.2|Plugins, and see is you have any NPJava...dll file. If not go to Program Files|Java|jre1.5.0.6|bin, and copy all the npJava files, and then Paste them into the NS7.2 plugins folder. There are, at least seven such files (if you have not done this before, highlight one file, and, then keeping the Cntrl button down highlight all the files which you want to copy. Then Edit|Copy. Then open the NS7.2 plugins folder, and in an empty area right click|paste. All files will be copied. I don't have NS7.2, but I have Seamonkey, with no java plugin files.
I did, successfully, the test, although it is not the easiest way. I had to allow
popups.

 

I can't comment since I don't have NS7.2, but Seamonkey1.0.1 is the nearest thing to it.

Java doesn't work on that site for me either, running Netscape 7.2. It does work in Mozilla, however, and also Firefox, as you know. Netscape 7.2 also fails the Java Test. This is puzzling as it always used to work. Adding the *.dll files made no difference here either.

I uninstalled, and reinstalled JRE 1.5.0_6, but it didn't help Netscape 7.2. I did find that a lot of other users are having the same problem. You might take a look at:
Java plugin 1.5 not working with Firefox or Netscape. It seems that there is no solution offered as yet. I also noted on the Sun site that they don't officially support Netscape. Since Netscape 7 is now defunct, it could be they will no longer offer a plugin for that browser...

 

Most of what I see in the link is about Solaris 9. I have had 1.5.0.6 only, since it came out, and, only recently have uninstalled NS7.2, and never had java problems before, nor do I have them with Firefox or Seamonkey. But each one has their own things, so I believe that anything is possible.

JRE 1.5.0_6 works just fine with Mozilla 1.7.13, SeaMonkey 1.0.1, and Firefox 1.5.0.3. It is only Netscape 7.2 where it no longer works.

Yes, there is a lot of talk about Solaris, but also Windows users having the problem. There are a few other threads on the same issue. I just have a sneaky suspicion that Sun doesn't really care if it doesn't work on Netscape...

 

And, I would move on, away from Netscape7.2 (and, not to NS8.1, by any stretch of my imagination). I never tried the specific link you entered, but I used NS7.2 till about a month ago, and java was working.
