Recently I have noticed that when I go to certain internet sites there will be missing buttons on the pages. When I have checked with others about this, they say they can see them on their computers. On mine, instead of the buttons, I see an empty box with a smaller box in the upper left corner that has a red and green dot inside it. This is a new development, which I would very much like to fix. It's probably just a setting, but I just don't know what to do about it. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

TacoBelle, it's been a while since I've had that problem but if I remember correctly (that's a joke:rolleyes: ) you might, in IE, click on tools>Internet options>advanced tab>check multimedia section that some "show pictures, play animations, etc." or whatever you want it to do hasn't become unchecked. Might help-might not.

  3. to hide this advert.

I wish this was the answer to my problem. I have already tried that and it does change the problem. Any other suggestions?:(

Do you have an ad blocking/stripping utility installed? Some utilities (such as the Outpost firewall) allow for images above a certain (configurable) size to be blocked/stripped from pages. If a button exceeds that certain size, it too will be blocked/stripped.

If this is not the case, can you post a URL for a site on which you are unable to see the buttons?

One of the pages is www.pappaps.com. This is the address of a webpage I maintain for a friend and it's worked properly up till about a month ago (the buttons on the bottom of the page). The friend told me he can see the buttons. I can't.

    What are Buffalo Wings?

The buttons are certainly there. Do you have any sort of ad-stripping utililty? Try clearing your browser cache, returning IE's advanced settings to the defaults and running the Repair Tool.

I didn't see any buttons. But I didn't see any place where there were supposed to be buttons. Were they supposed to be in the higher frame or the lower one?

Checked again. No buttons. However the links are highlighted in different colors when I put my cursor over them.

    What are Buffalo Wings?

I've been to the site twice. Seems there more buttons on 2nd visit, but buttons both times. All looks as it should (to me, at least)

Ahh, Brett! You need to get off the Isle more often. Big culinary fad here in the colonies for some time. Check this for more info
On the other hand, I haven't always known what bangers and mash nor Bubble and squeak are either. :D

I ran this question by our webmaster and here's his reply:

"What I see on that page is that it's working just exactly the way it's set up. The background for the "buttons" is #000000, which is black. The glow effect works just the way it's supposed to, according to the code. If the designer wants buttons, they need to change the color to something besides black. It looks fine on my version of IE, which is version 6, but I don't know about other versions or later versions of Netscrape. I'm seeing this page the same way that you were. (No buttons, glow effect on mouseover) Sorry I couldn't be more help...the page is working just the way it was designed to work. "

Obviously, he had no idea why some people are seeing buttons and others aren't.

Hi, I just got back from vacation. I've read the thread to see if there's been anything helpful added. Yesterday, I downloaded and installed IE6 to see if that would help. It didn't. What I see is placeholders on the lower frame of the previous page. I can't click on them to go to the other pages. This is not the only page I'm seeing like this. All my settings are set as they seem like they should be, as suggested in earlier posts, and I don't have a firewall. I have used AdAware, if that's what you mean by Ad stripping utility, but I have to run it, it doesn't run continually. Besides, I've used it for ages and this is a current development.

As for Buffalo wings, they are hot and spicy chicken wings or bar-b-que style chicken wings. I was wondering the same thing about the name. When I asked, I was told they were invented in Buffalo, NY - thus the name. :D
