ntfs or fat32

    i run winxp sp2 when installing i changed to nfts as the disc recommended.

    what is best for xp fat32 or ntfs.

    if fat32 how do i change back

    NTFS is best AND you can't convert back without formatting the drive.

    I went google on NTFS versus FAT32 which provides a few links for more detailed information.

    My take on the subject is that NTFS is the way to go. NTFS is:

    - more robust with a higher fault tolerance and better self repair capabilities;
    - has a set of security features (which most users do not apply but anyway);
    - is more efficient on disk space, 4 kB clusters compared to 16 kB for FAT32 up to 32 GB;
    - volumes have no size limit (WinXP can not format a volume larger than 32 GB to FAT32)

    However, if you want to be able to access the volume from DOS or a Win9X operating system (e.g. multi booting WinXP and Win98) the volume must be formated FAT32.

    A volume can be converted from FAT32 to NTFS but not the other way.
