After spending a long time trying to sort out this problem I thought I'd post a message here to provide a solution as I couldn't find one on the site.

Internet Explorer always searched for sites using ip 1.0.0.0. When you type a URL and select Go normally the status bar dispalys "found site etc.co.uk" but this was followed by 1.0.0.0

Pinging displayed the same result, local pinging worked fine but try pinging the internet and the problem arose and the ping "timed out ". Normally this would point to DNS error or a possible Hijacking. I checked both and there were no problems.

I spent 2.5 hours, yes, that's two and half hours on the phone to Linksys suspecting their router was at fault and they couldn't solve it. By now I was tearing my hair out and my client was calling his bank to increase the overdraft!!!

Eventually I found that a ****** ****** Microsoft update listed on the network adapter IP v6.

I deleted this restarted and hey presto the problem had vanished.:D

I hope this is of use to someone out there Micro**** *****

OK. Thanks for sharing i guess?
Knowing which update cause the problem would be nice.

Please refrain from the use of language that causes the asterisks to show up..

Don't know exactly what update it was as it's the first time I've seen it.

BTW the asterixes were asterixes I was just thinking bad language:eek:
