I would like to make a Shortcut to System Properties and place it on my Desktop. Do not know where to look for the File.

Go to C'trl Panel set it in Classic View>Systems>right click and create shortcut. Windows will ask if it should be placed on Desktop. Click Yes.

Thanks balo, I thought right clicking My Computer was quick, but this is even better. Now I can take the My Computer icon off the desktop. BTW, don't need the Classic view enabled to do this.

I don't even need a shortcut. Just click (and hold down) the Windows "flag" icon on your keyboard, and press the Pause / Break key. This will bring up System Properties.

AFAIK keyboards have this Windows "flag" key for the last several years.

This is fine unless you run a MS wireless keyboard on which the F keys have two functions toggled by the F Lock key. Unfortunately the Pause/Break key is in the same 'set' as the alternates to the F keys, so if the F Lock is set to use the F1, etc keys an additional step is required - hit F Lock to toggle Scroll Lock to Pause/Break - then Windows key + Pause/Break will bring up System Properties.

Arie and Jim, thanks for the references to the keybooard shorcuts.

Every once in awhile, I have to use someone's Latop at the office with no mouse unless I remember to bring one. I feel half my time is taken up with maneuvering with the scroll pad. I suppose if someone gets used to it, they get fairly fast, but its agony if your not. I'm a mouse person and I don't have wrist/hand problems.

    Regards - Charles

Maybe worth mentioning is that a keyboard shortcut can be created from almost any existing icon shortcut. Right click the shortcut icon|Properties|Shortcut tab|in Shortcut Key line type a letter not already used. Windows automatically adds Control+Alt. Now that program will open when you simultaneously click Control+Alt+That letter.
When you run out of letter keys, you can also use some other combination of Control, Shift and Alt, but I have forgotten which now.

WOW! That is a lot of Keyboard Shortcuts.
I will download to a text sheet and print to look it over. Main problem is, I can hardly remember yesterday. Oh well, I will give it a shot. Maybe tack it on the wall.

I click the Windows flag, and the only shortcut that works is Start Menu on and off. I use any key with the flag and nothing happens. This is a plug in Keyboard. I do not know I could have lost the use of the flag for Shortcuts.

    wahlroot--
You have to click the two keys essentially simultaneously and keep both in clicked position. Otherwise the Winkey (flag) will just bring up the Start Menu. At least that is how it works on my desktop PC with standard plug in keyboard.

I do click them simultaneously, and nothing happens. The keyboard is called a Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2. It shows 2 drivers. i8042prt.sys and kbdclass.sys. (No new drivers are listed on Compaq site). This is attached to a Compaq Presario computer, using Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. AMD Sempron 3000+ 200GHz, 704 MB of RAM. Had it about 7 Mos.
