I recently received a Blue Screen of Death error that there was a problem with finding a boot disk (or something). I booted from CD and ran chkdsk which fixed the problem. However, now when I boot and after logging in windows hangs with the "loading your personal setting" screen.

Silly me never got around to setting up a new profile when I last re-installed, so I am using the only profile - Administrator  .

Is there any way of fixing the profile before I re-install windows or do an emergency repair?

2nd, if I re-install will I lose all my email (using MS outlook) which keeps in the WINNT directory?

    Thanks

I'd probably run the Hard Drive manufacturer's Diagnostic Tool against the drive first just to make sure it's Ok, (drive integrity, read/write verification, etc.).Note: In most instances you download the file to your hard drive then (extract)/execute it to create a bootable diskette or ISO CD-ROM image.

I'm sure you can create a new user via recovery console that you can give admin rights too so that you can login. Not too sure but it might give you a starting place.
