I have been experiencing an annoying problem with Outlook (2003 at least - I believe I had a similar problem with Outlook 2000). I compose a message with formatting (using the Word editor, or even in MS Word directly, then copy & paste into the Outlook editor) and send it to one or more recipients, with a BCC to my alternate e-mail address (so I can file a copy in that message store, and/or check that it completes the send/receive cycle okay).

The message reaches other recipients with formatting preserved (i.e., HTML). However, when I retrieve the copy sent to myself, the message has been converted to text-only ( "plain text ")! I receive HTML formatted messages from other senders without any problems. It seems to be only the copies sent to myself that are the problem.

The problem seems to be in the receiving end because when I retrieve the messages sent to myself with Outlook Express, they look fine. Also, when I do the same thing from Outlook Express (on my other machine) and send a blind copy to myself, the copy sent to myself is retrieved in HTML format by both Outlook & Outlook Express. It is only when a message composed in Outlook is sent to myself and retrieved by Outlook that I experience this problem.

When reading these messages, the Format menu has all options except "Unwrap Text ", including "HTML" greyed-out.

I cannot find any option/configuration switch that would cause this to happen. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a cure?

    Can't anyone help with this?

I posted this question a week ago & have not received any replies. This problem is really annoying me and I have not been able to resolve it, despite searching many forums & Outlook oriented support/tips sites. I've been experiencing it for at least a couple of years and it has gotten increasingly annoying to the point where I am now desperate for a solution.

Outlook Express has an option to read/receive main in Plain Text only. It can be found in Tools->Options->READ
