I have applied to a well known intenet company and wantyed hight speed went to their high speed internet page and all we have to do is put in phone number and it will tell if you can get DSL high speed. Mine said it was okay and I sent for the kit and got signed up for the fast speed internet. I t was supposed to start last Thurs but I didn`t get my kit which was supposed to have been sent to me and have been at my house at least three days before getting connected to the high speed. I phoned them they said it was sent and it was the post offices fault. Five days later phoned again as I didn`t get it they said it was just shipped on the 4th so wouldn`t get it for five days. I said I had ordered it a week or two before they than said yes you did but we couldn`t find a port you are lucky we found a port so my question is what is a port for the high speed internet. I have never heard tell of it and am interested in what it could be. Anyone have any idea. Would appreciate an answer.

maryelle--I think HTTP access is usually through port 80, but that should be well known to the DSL service provider.
It seems you have DSL installed now and working. What do you plan to do with the information?

    port finding

It was probably somebody with a minimal amount of technical knowledge that told you this and used a buzzword (see above as to what port is). The HTTP port should have nothing to do with whether they will send you dsl or not. What he/she was probably reffering to was High Speed capability on your phone line. DSL works through phone lines and not all line have that capability.
