I uninstalled SP2. My "attachment" problem was gone-- Kaput
    I reinstalled 39 Service pack 1 upgradates.
I reistalled SP2. I had a scare at the very end. I was 80% through the cleanup stage when the process stopped. The setup wizard was running however. I waited for 45 minutes and finally called a friend for ideas. While talking to my friend it all of a sudden broke loose from whatever had it stalled, finished up and told me to restart my computer. PHEW.

A check on my OE showed no problems--attachments OK.

I can't thank you guys enough. You are great.

I would say "Mission Accomplished" but heck, I'm not that dumb:rolleyes:

Oromocto--Congratulations!! Now go back to Windows Updates and make sure there is nothing for SP2.
P.S. I hope there will not be a next time, but, if there is, go to Windows Update after the installation of SP2 instead of when your OS is SP1. SP2 may have already had a lot of the updates for SP1.

I was directed to SP2 updates when I finished installing SP1s updates and finished re-installing SP2, and downloaded 9 updates for XP2.

When I finished uninstalling SP2 there was no apparent/obvious choce but to download all those updates for XP1. I don't doubt that I could have went directly to installing XP2 but not through the auto update system that I was using. I had things working smoothly and did not want to rock the boat. :)
    Thanks again for your help.
