    Have XP
I tried to download a virus protection from AOL. It will not work because I keep getting a prompt that my Windows Installer is not working because it cannot access TrayApp.msi. I do not have a CD-ROM (which it is asking me to put in) of TrayApp. When I try to get out of the prompt it says Error 1706.
I have to Ctrl, Alt, Delete it everytime I start the computer now! Now when I access Peach Tree it says my Windows Istaller is not working properly. Help-What do I do???

certainly sounds like an AOL issue and not a windows one. eg - trayapps.msi is not an MS thing. i'm guessing here tho.

in any event, do a local search for trayapps.msi and see if it's there. if so, note it's location and see if u can supply it when the 'cannot find' problem comes up. eg - type it in or such.

my REAL advice = get a freebie virus scanner like avast and skip anything AOL supplies. AOL is horrible in my book ;)

    thanx!

Thanx Skeet! Was starting to think no one knew what the heck I was talking about.
I already tried to find this TrayApps.msi and can't. Unfortunately the office I am at (small office, 2 PCs) uses AOL and everyday AOL would prompt me to download this virus protection and since there was nothing else installed I went for it. But like I said, since I tried this download it has ******* up my Windows Installer (?). Is there anyway I can reinstall the Windows Installer? Do you know? I have never had this issue so I've never needed to deal with it. Now I feel like I've ******* up their computer!! :(

    Thanks again

Thanks again Skeet. The answer was there. All it is is some stupid file on the HP Printer disk...no where does it mention that! So I did what they said at howtofixcomputers.com and rebooted and so far so good! You're a modern day chivalrous knight and I thank you :) . Now let's just hope this problem won't sneak up on me again!
