I have just installed Windows on my computer, and wish to connect to my university's network.

Everything works fine on my Linux partition, but when I use windows, the network is not listed even though the cable is plugged in. I try to set up the network, but then I am told that windows is unable to find the network adapter hardware.

If the information helps, my network cable is plugged into the connector on my motherboard. I dont have any form of network connection card or anything.

If somebody could please shed some light on the matter, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You have to install the driver for your LAN card. If your PC came with a driver CD, the driver ought to be on it. If you can't find the CD, just boot into Linux, get hardware info for your LAN card & google it. You should be able to download the Windows drivers onto a removable drive or a FAT32 drive from Linux. Boot into Windows again & install those drivers.

To add to rsinfo's good advice, the driver is likely to be on a CD with the motherboard drivers. It may be easier to identify the motherboard and then find the drivers on the Motherboard manufacture's web site, if you can't find the CD.

As i said I don't have a Lan Card, the interface is built into the motherboard.

As for the driver CD... I dont have one either. I built the PC myself.

Understood. What's happening is that Linux is able to detect & install the necessary drivers for your LAN card but Windows isn't (nice to see the shoe on the other foot for a change :) ). If you tell Windows what hardware you have, it would happily start using it (install drivers).

The CD must have come with your motherboard. If you don't have it, search for your motherboard on the internet & download the drivers from the manufacturer's website.
