Not sure I can describe my problem in an understandable way but here goes:

When doing on line banking, for example, and I click on the 'calendar' option, the calendar pops up but only opens half way....that is, I can only see half of the page. Similarly, when I click on the 'results' of an online poll or survey, the page which pops up is only half visible. This occurs only when using FF (1.5.03); it doesn't happen when using Internet Explorer as my browser.

This is a recent problem, but one I can't trace to a specific action or time...it was there prior to my upgrading to the most current FF version, however.

I'm sure its something I've inadvertently done, but I can't seem to fix it.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

The problem has occurred, for the first time, with FF1.5 beta, and, I noticed in the other stable versions. So, I agree, but it is not a new thing, unless you upgraded from a 1.0.x version.
I remember checking my extentions or themes, and corrected the problem by removing one of them. I posted, somewhere, but forgot what I said. It is not as bad as it used to be (I was getting the vertical part, and only half the horizontal, particularly annoying with bank sites where they presented you with a calendar), but still around.
And, of course, it would not happen with with IE.

That's exactly what I'm getting. I've removed every extension but the problem persists, so it doesn't appear to be extension related.

    Anyway, thanks for your comments.

    doubleu ...

It's unlikely that any of your extensions is responsible for the problem, nor is Firefox, itself. Unfortunately, many websites don't adhere to W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) protocols, and don't display properly in Firefox. Calendars seem particularly susceptible ... I had an instance recently where a tour operator's onscreen calendar would display every day of the week except Monday.

The problem with my bank's site is not their calendar, but the button I need to click to log off. It works with IE, but not with Firefox.

An easy fix is to add an extension such as Launchy, which will open the webpage you're on in IE (or any other browser you may have installed) from an icon on the toolbar. It also works with Thunderbird.

I was always wondering how an extention could affect these requested popups, but they have occurred with FF1.5.x, and not with 1.0.8. So, one would wonder if the website is the troublemaker. A fellow at another newsgroup said that he went over his extentions, and found that after removing Site Advisor (which I have in both 1.5.x and 1.0.8), and Adblock (which I don't) corrected the problem. Go figure!
The best thing is to take notice of the website(s), ....wonder.

A quick way to check if extensions / themes installed in Firefox could be causing display/any problems ...
    Close Firefox
Reload Firefox using Firefox Safe Mode option.
This will load Firefox, but will use default theme and no extensions will be loaded. Now go to your problem site ..
If it works, problem is with a extension(s)/non default theme.
If it does NOT work, W3C protocol issue.

    That's a good point, Dennis.

I should have mentioned that there is at least one other FF extension, IE View, which will open a webpage in IE but, unfortunately, IE View opens pages only in IE. Launchy, on the other hand, allows you to choose almost any browser installed on your computer. For example, I normally open problem pages with SlimBrowser ... although an IE shell, it uses tabs and it seems to load more quickly than IE. Launchy lets me select IE or SlimBrowser

In addition, Launchy allows you to view the pagesource from many text editors, including Notepad and WordPad.

    Jim,
I had never, quite, figured out what Launchy was for, but Dennis' suggestion of using safe-mode is the only way to sort out themes or extentions. I use that before starting to uninstall extentions. It can be a bear, because one would always think of more recent extentions, until you realize that I have not recorded when and where the problem was observed. I did today at a bank site, but although the entire calendar was not visible, I needed only the middle of the calendar, and there was no need to click on Enter. Anyway, I make my payment only once each month.
