Hello everyone, this is my first thread here so hopefully I'm in the right section of the forum. :)

I am trying to solve the following problem. We would like to have our IT/IS staff access department-specific shares from end-user computers, while the end-user is logged in. Now, we know of two ways to do this, but both are not ideal as we would also like to find a solution for our end-users to do this from other machines as well (they are rather nomadic). The objective of the solution for the end-users is to move away from a "common" drive that is used by end-users as a dumping ground for everything under the sun. The two ways we know to access shares from a PC with another user logged in (who does not have rights to the particular share) are:

    1) Map a drive and put in the proper credentials. Not ideal, as people will forget to uncheck reconnect at login, thus allowing indefinite end-user access to IT/IS-specific shares.

    2) Go to command line and execute a runas command. Again not ideal, as this is not something that we can ask our end-users to do (largely non-technical).

So, in light of this, is there any other way to connect to Windows Server 2003 shares from another PC while a user without rights to the share is logged in?

    Thanks,

    Doomjack

Hmm, no, basically, I think you have pretty well covered the built in options. If you want to look at something like RunAs professional: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloads/commandline_software/ it might be what you are looking for.

    My best,
