I need advice. I can't keep trying to "fix" multiple Win98 machines / McAfee problems. Would like something free that works (church machine, no budget...).

    deck,

I agree with Pete. I recently switched from Norton's to AVG on two of my systems (a 98 and XP). The Win98 system is working much faster with Norton's and AVG seems to be doing a good job. When the subscription on my other XP system ends, in a couple weeks, I will be switching that one over to AVG also. You won't regret using AVG. I also have a couple spyware/adware programs running with my anti-virus programs to keep extra nasties out. If you don't have any, you may want to install a couple. I use Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and SpywareBlaster.

I now have AVG.... and working beautifully. I had thought that my main computer was just getting "old" (like me!). She's now running MUCH better. :)

I'll start in on the other computers later today... I can't wait to see if they end up running much better, too.

    Thanks guys!

    Arthur,

You're welcome. Let us know how the other systems run after the switch.

Excellent choices...I use them all myself.

I would also recommend Winpatrol, as this program will alert you to a rouge, or unwanted startup process trying to install itself behind your back.

AVG has a nice free antivirus program. The company name is Grisoft (sp?).

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see the replies for some reason. Yes, AVG is nice. :)
