Here is the setup. 2 networks 4 miles apart connected with cisco vpn. communications between the two networks is passed through the cisco devices.

network address 1: 192.168.9.0-255 (local domain)

    network address 2: 192.168.12.0-255 (remote)

I have 3 printers at the remote network. Problem is with these 3 printers. What appears to be happening is I can only communicate with 2 printers at any given time. If printer 1 and 2 are pingable, then 3 is not pingable. If printer 2 and 3 are pingable, then 1 is not pingable, and if printer 1 and 3 are pingable, then 2 is not pingable.

I have chased this down to this. All other computers on the network are pingable. Everything works fine except for these 3 printers.

now the details of the printers are as follows:

    printer 1:
    hp laserjet 4250
    192.168.12.200

    printer 2:
    hp laserjet 4250
    192.168.12.202

    printer 3:
    hp laserjet 5
    192.168.12.15

Any thoughts as to what might case this? Let me know if more information is needed that pertains to the possiblity of this problem.

    Thanks!

    Kevin

Check your gateway and mask for all three printers and make sure they are the same and that they match the other equipment on your network. Make sure DHCP isn't running on your printers.

Also, try turning all three of the printers (or print servers if they are not internal on the printers) off and pinging those three printer IP addresses. If one of those addresses still pings then there must be another piece of equipment with that same IP address.

    Thanks for the reply.

I found the problem was a license issue on the Pix firewall. Licensed for 10 devices. I was exceeding that license.

    Thanks again.
