I have a Windows XP, Gateway laptop computer with a dvd drive. Everytime I insert a dvd and click play the computer will show a blue screen and then it would restart. I have tried it in both the Dvd player and windows media player but they show the same results. How can i resolve this problem? thanks for any help.

We need some details off that blue screen in order to diagnose the problem ....

Right Click My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery > Settings and under System failure uncheck 'Automatically Restart' and OK out.

Your computer will now stop at the blue screen and will need to be manually restarted.

Induce a blue screen by trying to play a DVD and post the Stop message plus any file that is referred to on that screen.

On restart look in Event Viewer ....

Right click My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer > Application and System.

In one or the other there may be an error timed when the computer blue screened and flagged with a white cross on a red ground. Double click on it to open and on the icon below the up/down arrows to copy to clipboard. Paste into a post here.

Your computer would appear to have an Intel onboard graphics chip. I suggest you reinstall the graphics driver - probably available for download from Gateway.

i reinistalled the driver but that did not work. It goes in a blue screen and says this:
    STOP: 0x000000EA(0xFF09BDA8,0xFFAED4C0,0xF99C0CB4,0x00000001)

Everytime the computer starts it says that it recovered from a serious error.

This error shows up in the event viewer:

Error code 100000ea relates to ....
Try the Workaround outlined in this MS KB article ....

    Error message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

If reducing the hardware acceleration has no effect it is a driver problem or possibly hardware.

If the problem persists go to this thread and follow the instructions for posting Memory Dump Data....
