I was doing my weekly system cleanup and wanted to update Firefox to the new version. As I always do, I went to Add/Remove and clicked unistall. Nothing happened. After a couple minutes, I click uninstall again. Still nothing. I did a CAD and found 2 uninstall entries. I closed both entries and tried again. Same problem. I went to the Firefox program folder and double clicked on the uninstall.exe file, same problem as above. Firefox does not want to uninstall. I tried copying the uninstall file over from another system, no luck. Wasn't sure if it would've, but i had to try. I ran the update program, hoping to get a new uninstall file installed, no luck. It did update to the new version, but I'm not able to unistall.

I finally deleted the entire Firefox folder in Windows Explorer. I installed the new version of Firefox and it is working, but why isn't the unstall file working? I am sure that there are some entries that would have been removed if the proper method would have worked. I just like things to work the way they are suppose to. Doesn't everybody. I have never had any problems with Firefox uninstalling before. This problem is only with my Win98, the XP systems worked as they should. I also tried other programs in the Add/Remove program and everything except Firefox and Thunderbird would remove. The Mozilla programs would do nothing. I'm assuming that this is a glitch with the latest versions. Just so you know, the newest version gives me the same uninstall problem. Strange that this just started happening.

For what it's worth, I did install a Windows update this morning. The update was a security update regarding IE. I can't believe that would affect Add/Remove. Any thoughts on getting the uninstall program working again? Thanks in advance!

    Mike,

I just did a search at MozillaZine, and this is apparently a new bug as there are many others experiencing this problem, including me!

One suggestion was to check the Registry to see if you have duplicate entries for Firefox in the Uninstall key. Look here:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall]

I checked, but have only one entry. I had to manually uninstall 1.5.0.2, and do a Registry cleanup, and now find that I can't uninstall 1.5.0.3 either. I have a feeling there will be more bug reports, but I did find this unconfirmed bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336200

Thanks Ramona! At least I'm not the only one with this problem. If I remember correctly, I only had one entry in the registry when I checked this morning. I will check it again. I guess I will just leave it alone for now, since it is working. I'm sure they will put out a fix in the near future.

But, you don't need to uninstall FF1.5.x if you use the incremental update.
It is not an issue for me, having WinXP, but I wonder if the fact any FF1.5.x installed from a complete installer indicate that they are v.1.5, and, only the incrementally updated program will show the correct version in the Add/Remove, may be a problem with Win98?
I had, in Add|Remove, first 1.5, and then 1.5.0.1, incrementally updated. Then I uninstalled 1.5.0.1, and used the complete installer for 1.5.0.2, which showed up at Mozilla Firefox1.5 in Add/Remove. Now, after incremental update, the Add/Remove shows Mozilla Firefox1.5.0.3.

    Westside,

I just always remove the old and install the new. I felt better doing it that way. As you mentioned, my Add/Remove in Win98 showed Firefox 1.5 even though I had newer versions installed. You're right, it may be a Win98 issue only.
