My Gateway with Windows 98 is getting the Blue screen with 'fatal error 0E at 0028: C00051ef in VXD VMM(01) + 000041EF. I have to restart the pc several times before I can get to the desk top so logging on take about 40 minutes. I ran PC Bug Doctor and it fixed some errors but not this one. I also ran CCleaner and when it tried to fix a shortcut it came up with this:
    c:\windows\startmenu\programs\accessories\system tools\resource meter.ink File Not Found
What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks,

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

That error seems to relate to drivers [OE's for VXD VMM(01)] in MS knowledgebase. VMM.vxd is the "virtual machine manager" (don't ask how I know this :D ).
I might specifically suspect the graphics drivers, but would start by updating the chipset drivers at the Gateway website, then the graphics drivers. Are you using built-in graphics or an add-in card?

It may relate to other minor drivers, especially those of non-Gateway origin.

Try updating the chipset and graphics drivers first (it has worked for me in the past).

PS you should be able to add the "resource meter" using Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Setup tab -> System Tools (you will need the Windows CD or setup files on your hard drive).

    Thanks for the help!
I also had a suggestion to go into MSCONFIG and save what was checked then uncheck and slowly recheck, Check! Anway found a file that is tied into my printer software that is causing the main problem. Got it unchecked and this thing starts fine. I'm in the process of upgrading so I just wanted this working so I can transfer the stuff I need.
    Thanks,
    David

Thanks for letting us know about the msconfig method.

I suggest if you going to install the printer on another computer that you install the least amount of HP software possible (apart from the drivers of course).
