When I try to send/receive my email on Outlook Express, I can send mail just fine, but only a small portion of my new mail is received.

I click on Send/Receive to start the process; the messages in my Outbox are sent. The dialog box then says "Receiving list of messages from server," and that appears to be successful. The next dialog box says "Receiving message 1 of 42" (with increasing numbers as successive emails are downloaded), but then Outlook Express stops and an error message is displayed saying:

An unknown error has occurred. <There are some details about hte account/server/protocol names> Error number: 0x800C013A

I have searched for this error number and can find no solution for it.

Originally, the problem was intermittent, but now I can only download between 0-5 messages. Since all of the messages to be downloaded are not downloaded (without error), every time I try to download, I get the same messages over and over.

    I am using:
    • Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
    • Outlook Express 6 Version 6.00.2900.2180

I have contacted my DSL provider, and they are convinced that the problem is with Outlook Express. I can view all of my email online through the DSL provider's internet site.

I did read somewhere that it is bad to cancel out of Outlook's file compacting program, and I believe I did do that when it was compacting my Deleted files folder -- could this be the source of my problems?

Any suggestions? This is driving me crazy!

    Debbie

    Thank You

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

That seemed to do the trick -- and a quick fix too!! Based on the information you pointed me to, I have been storing way too many files in my Inbox folder also.

Thanks again - have a great weekend,
    Debbie
